What Is BOTOX®?
BOTOX® is a prescription drug made from a neurotoxin called onabotulinumtoxinA produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is used to medically treat certain muscular conditions, and to cosmetically remove wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing facial muscles. The effects are only temporary and last from 3 to 4 months at which point you may choose to have it re-injected. Once you begin treatment by one of our anti-aging specialists, our office will automatically remind you when it is time for your next treatment.

BOTOX® paralyzes the muscles by preventing the release of a chemical in the muscles called acetylcholine, effectively blocking the nerve impulses to the injected muscles from causing moderate to severe lines to form on the face. Once this chemical has been blocked, the muscles are effectively unable to move.
Out of approximately 11.8 million BOTOX® Cosmetic procedures that have been administered in the United States since 2002, the majority of patients surveyed were satisfied with the results of their experience.
Brief History of BOTOX®
BOTOX® was introduced in 2002 and is the first botulinum toxin to be approved by the FDA to temporarily treat moderate to severe glabellar lines between the brows. BOTOX® has been chosen by millions of women and their doctors because of immediate, noticeable results with no surgery and no recovery time. There have been approximately 11.8 million BOTOX® procedures administered in the United States since 2002. Of 303 patients surveyed 92% were satisfied with the results of their experience.
How Much do BOTOX® Treatments Cost?
BOTOX® costs are based upon a per unit fee. Depending upon the size of the area to be treated, a half dozen or more units may be used per area. When multiple facial areas are treated, the price increases appropriately. You can expect to pay between $10 and $15 per unit used, even though the prices of BOTOX® can go up or down based upon supply/demand as well as competition between providers.

How Safe Is BOTOX®?
Serious side effects are extremely rare but can include allergic reactions, skin rashes, dizziness or trouble breathing. This is not a complete list of possible side effects; our BOTOX® specialist, James, will provide you with that information prior to your treatment.
You will notice that directly after the injections, the treated areas may be tender and slightly red. These are normal reactions that the body has to both the BOTOX® solution as well as from the needle.
