Research Reveals True Motivations for Aesthetic Treatments

Allergan, Inc., a leader in manufacturing a wide range of aesthetic treatment options, recently conducted a study on what motivates women to seek fillers: is it to boost their appearance or their confidence?

The answer may seem like a no-brainer, but these study results might just surprise you.

Fillers for Confidence vs. Appearance

The Allergan study revealed that female participants were more concerned with how they felt about themselves rather than wanting to enhance their appearance.

In other words, getting filler injections wasn’t truly about looking better; it’s about how they view themselves. Researchers went on to note that most of the participants reported they don’t necessarily receive fillers because of the aging process, but instead, for “general beautification.”

The results of this study are quite helpful to understanding our own clients at James Christian Cosmetics. We know it’s not only about how they look after treatment, but it’s also about how confident and attractive they feel. We take time to understand each person’s aesthetic goals during their consultation.

The results of filler treatment is tied directly to how clients feel, but not everyone is concerned about the same things. For instance, one woman may see lines on the outside of her eyes (crow’s feet) as unattractive, so she chooses muscle relaxers and fillers to smooth them away.

Yet another woman may be more concerned about how under eye circles make her look more tired and older than she feels. It’s all in what the clients want and how their results will make them feel.

Additional Thoughts

The findings are quite interesting, as many people believe that the purpose of fillers is to impress others. What we would be interested in knowing are the ages of the participants in the Allergan study. Many older women may care less about what people think of them whereas those in their 20s and 30s might care more.

With that said, those who seek fillers in their 20s and 30s may be doing it more for others rather than themselves. But of course, depending on how you look at it, they are still doing it for themselves. When others perceive them as beautiful, that makes them feel good about themselves.
