BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a simple, non-surgical neuro-toxin treatment for people 18 to 65 years of age that is injected into:

  • Muscles to improve the look of moderate-to-severe frown lines, or the "elevens", between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) when eyebrows are furrowed
  • The area around the side of the eyes (crow’s feet) to improve the look of moderate to severe lines
  • The area around the mouth (perioral muscles) to improve "smile lines"
  • The forehead muscles to stop horizontal creases from appearing when the eyebrows are raised

It works by blocking nerve impulses to reduce activity in the injected muscles. This improvement lasts for a short period of time (temporary). The effects are seen right away as wrinkles on the face no longer appear when you smile or frown.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is designed to be re-injected about every 3 to 4 months because the body gradually removes the neuro-toxin from the muscle tissues over time resulting in a return of complete movement in the treated muscles.

You may notice that directly after the injections, the treated areas may be tender, swollen and slightly red. These are normal reactions that the body has to both the BOTOX® solution as well as from the needle. More serious side effects are extremely rare but can include allergic reactions, skin rashes, dizziness or trouble breathing. A full list of complications is available in our office.

BOTOX® Cosmetic was introduced in 2002 and is the first botulinum toxin to be approved by the FDA to temporarily treat moderate to severe glabellar lines between the brows.

As of this writing, approximately 11.8 million procedures have been administered in the United States since 2002. Out of 303 patients surveyed 92% were satisfied with the results of their BOTOX® Cosmetic experience.

BOTOX® Cosmetic has been chosen by millions of women and their doctors not only because of the real, noticeable results, but also because there is no surgery or recovery time.

BOTOX® Cosmetic Science

Botulinum toxin injections are an excellent way to isolate specific muscles of the face that are causing laugh lines, frown lines and other telltale signs of aging that patients are looking to temporarily erase. The neuro-toxin must be directly injected with a needle into the muscles that are to be paralyzed. This neuro-toxin works to prevent the release of a chemical in the muscles called acetylcholine. Once this chemical has been blocked, the muscles are effectively unable to move.

BOTOX® Cosmetic Cost

BOTOX® Cosmetic costs are based upon a per unit fee. Depending upon the size of the area to be treated, a half dozen or more units may be used per area. When multiple facial areas are treated, the price increases appropriately. Though the prices of BOTOX® can go up or down based upon supply and demand as well as competition between providers, you can expect to pay between $10 and $15 per unit used.

We offer competitive prices as well as seasonal specials running throughout the year so that you receive the best treatments at the most affordable prices. We are glad to work with you to reach an affordable treatment cost, especially when you commit to a long term treatment plan for 12 months or longer.

Once you begin treatment, our office will automatically remind you when it is time for your next treatment.

If you are aware of the news lately, you probably have noticed some very scary stories about people who have, for the sake of saving money, received so-called "Botox" treatments from an unqualified person and ended up with terrible and sometimes lethal consequences. Don't ever take chances with your health; make an appointment with our injectables expert James Christian instead!
