What Is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® is a prescription drug made from a neurotoxin called onabotulinumtoxinA produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is used to medically treat certain muscular conditions, and to cosmetically remove wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing facial muscles. The effects are only temporary and last from 3 to 4 months at which point you may choose to have it re-injected. Once you begin treatment by one of our anti-aging specialists, our office will automatically remind you when it is time for your next treatment.

BOTOX® injections are an excellent way to isolate specific muscles of the face that are causing laugh lines, frown lines and other telltale signs of aging that you are looking to temporarily erase. The areas of the face commonly treated with BOTOX® include the areas around the eyes to lessen the appearance of “crow’s feet”, the area around the mouth (perioral muscles), the forehead muscles to stop horizontal creases from appearing when the eyebrows are raised, and the area between the eyes to eliminate the “elevens” (vertical lines when eyebrows are furrowed called glabellar lines).

benefits

BOTOX® is administered by our facial filler & injectable expert, James, as a simple, nonsurgical treatment that is injected with a needle directly into the muscles that are to be paralyzed. This reduces muscle activity that causes moderate to severe lines to form.

BOTOX® injections work by preventing the release of a chemical in the muscles called acetylcholine. Once this chemical has been blocked, the muscles are effectively unable to move. During the treatment, we ask you to frown, furrow your eyebrows and smile to see which specific muscle groups need to be targeted to give you a smooth face that does not show wrinkles in the places that bother you. The cosmetic effects of BOTOX® are seen right away as wrinkles on the face no longer appear when you smile or frown.

BOTOX® is designed to be re-injected about every 3 to 4 months. It needs to be repeated because the body gradually removes the neuro-toxin from the muscle tissues over time. This results in a return to complete movement in the treated muscles.

Brief History of BOTOX®

BOTOX® was introduced in 2002 and is the first botulinum toxin to be approved by the FDA to temporarily treat moderate to severe glabellar lines between the brows. BOTOX® has been chosen by millions of women and their doctors because of immediate, noticeable results with no surgery and no recovery time. There have been approximately 11.8 million BOTOX® procedures administered in the United States since 2002. Of 303 patients surveyed 92% were satisfied with the results of their experience.

How Much do BOTOX® Treatments Cost?

BOTOX® costs are based upon a per unit fee. Depending upon the size of the area to be treated, a half dozen or more units may be used per area. When multiple facial areas are treated, the price increases appropriately. You can expect to pay between $10 and $15 per unit used, even though the prices of BOTOX® can go up or down based upon supply/demand as well as competition between providers.

We offer competitive prices as well as seasonal specials running throughout the year so that you receive the best treatments at the most affordable prices. We are glad to work with you to reach an affordable treatment cost, especially when you commit to a long term treatment plan for 12 months or longer.

No matter your aesthetic goals for a more youthful appearance, our skilled injector, James Christian, along with our Board Certified Plastic Surgeons can give you a complete treatment plan that will address each of your facial concerns. We are known for sitting with patients for as long as needed to answer questions and customize a treatment plan that will be most effective while working within your budget.

How Safe Is BOTOX®?

Serious side effects are extremely rare but can include allergic reactions, skin rashes, dizziness or trouble breathing. This is not a complete list of possible side effects; our BOTOX® specialist, James, will provide you with that information prior to your treatment.

You will notice that directly after the injections, the treated areas may be tender and slightly red. These are normal reactions that the body has to both the BOTOX® solution as well as from the needle.
