What Are Eyelash Extensions?
Eyelash extensions are a virtually weight-less, semi-permanent solution for increasing the fullness and length of your natural eyelashes. When applied properly they will look and feel completely natural as they will completely blend in with your existing lashes. The extensions are actually glued to existing eyelashes which can be at various stages of growth during their life cycle.
Because they are glued to existing lashes the results aren’t a permanent solution as virtually everyday old lashes fall out as new ones emerge. So your extended lashes need to be maintained and “filled-in” every 2-3 weeks as your lashes fall out to keep the full a consistent look.
What Do They Look Like?
Eyelash Extensions look just like natural eye lashes – except longer and a bit thicker. The image on the right gives you an idea of what the final result of an eyelash extension might look like. However please note that this image is a stock image using a model and don’t fully represent exactly the results you can expect.
As you can see in the image though, having eye lash extensions really improves the fullness of the eyelashes more than simple mascara can. Depending on the type and length you choose they can have a large or smaller impact when people look at your eyes.
In general, we don’t recommend going too extreme with the extensions due to possible complications that can arise.
What Can I Expecting During The Appointment?
Each appointment can be a littler different, especially depending on the type of extension treatment you’re getting. But assuming this is your first time coming in the process will start with an initial consultation.
During this consultation we will assess your existing lashes and markup routine to determine which options would be best suited to you. Generally, you can have a choice of things such as the lash material, length, curl and shape. Once the details are selected we start the procedure. The procedure time can vary but as a general estimate a full set will take about 2 – 2.5 hours to apply.
Many find the procedure itself quite relaxing. You essentially are laid back with your eyes closed the whole time while the technician applies each individual lash one-by-one using tweezers and a special glue. You can barely feel anything at all during this and it’s not uncommon for patients to fall asleep during the procedure.
After The Appointment
After the appointment is done you can return to your normal daily routine for the most part. Though we ask that you minimize the chance of wetting the extensions for the first 48 hours after your treatment to give the adhesive a good chance to set. After that time, moderate contact with water is ok. Excessive contact such as in a steam sauna or when receiving certain facials can cause the adhesive bond to loosen. It’s also advised that you avoid applying makeup to your eyes or eye lashes during this time.
In fact, you may want to avoid using things like mascara that whole time since one of the benefits of eyelash extensions is that mascara is no longer needed to get that longer, fuller lash appearance. However, if you feel the need as you are getting close to needing a refill a water-based mascara can be used. Regardless if you do choose to use a mascara or not, you should avoid trying to curl or perm your eyelash extensions as the extra force can detach the extensions.
…And Beyond
It’s very easy to get used to seeing your lashes look incredible and as such, many clients often like to continue to get ongoing touchups done every couple weeks or so to keep their lashes looking full and beautiful. However, other clients prefer to get them done for more special occasions (birthdays, anniversary, weddings or even nice dinners out).
Whichever option you choose however, Eyelash Extensions are a great way to accent your natural beauty. They can be great on their own or ever paid with other facial injection treatments to give yourself a full makeover.
