Raise your hand if you have dark circles under your eyes. Don’t worry; you’re not alone. Dark circles can run in families, and can be quite irritating because they can make you look tired and worn out.

The good news is that there are many things you can do to lighten the darkness under your eyes. Read on to get some tips that will make a true difference in improving the under eye area.

Get More Sleep

You knew this was going to be recommended. Lack of sleep is one of the biggest culprits in discoloration under the eyes. For many people, all they have to do is get more sleep, and their dark circles vanish.

Eat Better

Even with enough sleep, some people continue to struggle. Nutrition can play a big part in getting rid of bags and circles, especially foods that contain vitamin C.

Try to incorporate more of these foods into your diet:

  • Oranges
  • Broccoli
  • Strawberries
  • Kale
  • Papaya
  • Peas
  • Pineapple
  • Melon
  • Cauliflower
  • Cabbage

You can also take a vitamin C supplement if you have a hard time eating enough vitamin C packed foods.

Stay Hydrated Inside and Out

Dehydration can increase darkness under the eyes. Be sure to drink enough water each day to keep your skin well hydrated. If you drink caffeinated beverages, be sure to drink extra water to combat the dehydrating effects of caffeine.

Also, don’t forget to moisturize. This is important year-round because dryness can occur no matter the season. It’s best to moisturize your face right after washing it in the morning and night. Face lotion can provide hydration, essential fatty acids, and other nutrient-rich compounds to help keep your skin looking its best.

Use Sunscreen

Sun exposure can cause increased pigmentation under the eyes. To keep dark circles from getting darker, wear sunscreen every day. Many moisturizers already have sunscreen in them, so they can do double duty. Don’t forget to reapply throughout the day if you’re in the water or sweating a lot.

Get a Concealer Tattoo

There’s a video on social media that shows people getting concealing tattoos under their eyes. The tattoo ink is the same color as facial skin, is precisely color matched for each client, and effectively disguises dark circles (even better than concealer makeup). When tattooed under the eyes, it completely hides dark pigmented skin.

Try Restylane Silk

Yes, there’s a filler for that! For undereye darkness, that is. The dermal filler, Restylane Silk®, is made of hyaluronic acid. This is a gentle dermal filler made from a sugar that is naturally occurring in the skin. It helps to increase fat pads under the eyes, which lightens the appearance of dark circles.
