Everywhere you turn, you’ve probably heard experts discussing the importance of nutrition and exercise to preserve your health. But can these healthy habits preserve your youthfulness, too? Research says yes.

The Power of Nutrition

A study published in Dermato Endocrinology found that the vitamins, carotenoids, tocopherols, and flavonoids found in fruits and vegetables can have an anti-aging effect on the skin. The antioxidants found in these foods can help decrease the free radicals produced by your body from the toxins you are exposed to.

Lowering the amount of free radicals is what seems to preserve a person’s youthfulness because it keeps their skin from sagging, which is an age-related side effect.

The Power of Exercise

Nutrition isn’t enough, though. Exercise matters too. Getting the heart pumping and blood flowing in your body can help fight inflammation, infection, and help your skin heal faster. Not only that, exercise allows the body to keep the flexibility and strength it is has developed over the years.

Just like anything, the less you use it the weaker it becomes. According to the American College of Sports Medicine, exercise is one of the best ways to prevent loss of mobility that can accompany old age.

Mobility isn’t the only thing exercise can do to keep you youthful. Researchers at McMaster University in Ontario found individuals who exercised regularly had a healthier stratum corneum and thicker dermis layers.

Even though the participants in the study were over the age of 40, their skin composition was more like that of 20 or 30 year olds. What’s even more surprising is they found some participants over the age of 65 had similar skin composition!

Putting Nutrition, Exercise, and Skin Care Treatment Together for the Fountain of Youth

These aren’t the only studies confirming the power of nutrition and exercise to preserve youthfulness. There are many others with similar results. You cannot deny that a healthy lifestyle is truly a good way to keep yourself functioning and looking young.

However, you can still get a youthful boost with skin treatments and injectables. At James Christian Cosmetics, we encourage all of our clients to take good care of themselves through diet and exercise, in addition to our services. Together, we can help you stay motivated to age beautifully.
