In addition to BOTOX® parties, there’s another new trend – DIY injectables. People are buying BOTOX or hyaluronic acid fillers online and injecting themselves with it.

Do not do it.

The Dangers of DIY Injectables

In 2017, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) made a formal warning not to buy fillers online, “NEVER buy dermal fillers on the Internet. They may be fake, contaminated, or harmful.”

The problem is people are still doing it because the products are available online, and there are many YouTube videos that show people how to do it.

Despite the health risks of not knowing what is in the formula you receive from the online seller and then not injecting it in the right place isn’t enough to deter people from doing it. This was identified in a 2018 study published by the journal Plastic Surgery.

What’s making people want to do their injectables at home?

  • Affordability
  • Videos
  • Online Advice

The reason it’s affordable is that the formulas aren’t high quality and buyers aren’t paying to have a specialist inject them. It’s not worth the risk, though. Injectable experts, like James Christian Sardelli, RPA-C, buy products straight from the manufacturer. Those products are the highest quality possible, and the same can’t be said for sellers online. In addition to that, injectable experts have the experience to use the products correctly and effectively for a natural appearance. People who decide to do DIY injectables are just setting themselves up for either disappointment or regret when the results aren’t what they were expecting.

Online videos and other forms of content encourage people to do it at home, too. They give interested people the confidence of being able to do it themselves. That confidence is what motivates them to try it, unfortunately.

We can’t keep people from DIY injectables. All we can do is warn them not to do it, and let them know they can get a good deal on injectables at James Christian Cosmetics AND  get high-quality products and an experienced injector. Saving a few dollars isn’t worth your health and beauty, is it?
